See inside this unique kitchen transformation in a Port St. Lucie PGA Village Reserve Plantation home. The original custom kitchen was beautiful when it was built in the 1990s, but it lacked function and much-needed working cook space. With the dishwasher sitting on an elevated pedestal and the bar top at a second level, there was very little usable countertop space for prep. The dated desk area also limited the workspace around the stove and cooktop. And that hood… well, you can see it. LOL. This kitchen needed a new layout, and we couldn’t wait to fix it!

Luckily, the floors had been installed before the cabinets, which made it much easier to move some of the appliances around. We started by knocking down the raised bar top to create one continuous countertop level and removing the lowered desk area. Next, we balanced out the heavy appliances that were stacked in the corner and improved the cooking workflow by moving the double oven closer to the cooktop. We also relocated the pantry storage to the opposite side of a new, more modern hood, creating a beautiful bookend-style kitchen wall.

Now, the homeowners have so much more functional countertop space for food prep, their coffee bar, and small appliances, along with significantly more food storage thanks to pull-outs. We also raised the entire kitchen another foot, giving them even more valuable storage space!

A few other details we love are the custom batten-wrapped peninsula and the matching shelves we added to the recessed niche.
